5 Things I'm Pretending I Discovered First
because gatekeeping is exhausting, and sharing is cool
Lately, I’ve been that friend. The one who texts “you NEED this” with zero context and a link to something semi-life-changing (or at least wardrobe-elevating). So here’s what’s on my current cool-girl moodboard—things I’m obsessed with, casually claiming as my own discovery, even if 10,000 Pinterest saves say otherwise.
A friend asked me for some options for Mother’s Day jewelry, specifically, lockets. I thought a locket was such a vintage (but fresh again) take on the mom’s day necklace, an alternative to the kids initial that has cornered the motherhood neck real estate for the past decade. This solid gold option is a forever piece while not breaking the bank, and it’s engravable. If that’s still a little steep, this vermeil version is equally beautiful, you’d just want to remove it when showering or sweating. I consider myself to be “high maintenance in order to be low maintenance”. I like to do the work up front so my day to day is easy. I get my hair done once a year with “grown out” highlights, so that I can go another year before getting a touch up, I get my lashes and brows tinted once a month so I can skip mascara and brow gel on the daily, and I try to eat well, sweat, and get enough sleep so that I can look and feel my best. One of my favorite little tricks: this shower head. It’s beautiful to look at, yes, but it also works. I’ve been using one for a year and a half, and I’ll never go back: my hair is soft and shiny, my skin is calmer and clearer. Showering in filtered water is a beauty hack that involves zero work.
A white on white set for summer. California nights can get chilly, even if it’s 80 during the day. There’s nothing more crisp that a perfect white set (especially with a tan!) and some silver accessories. I’ll have this one on hand to change into after long days at the beach or on vacations with the family. The Billie Tank and matching Reece Sweatpants are 100% Peruvian cotton, made in Peru, with a local “seed to garment” approach that lessens carbon footprint. (code: AFFIL-RUTH20)
Nothing screams summer like a pair of espadrilles. I’m not a huge fan of a high heel, but these slides are right up my ally. They come in a wide array of fun colors, but I opted for the white and the black, to keep it classic. Will definitely be my shoe of choice while on the go. (RUTH20 will save you 20%)
Lastly, I’m a minimal makeup gal, but I do love a swipe of color on my lips. This lip color is a barely there lip plump (it tingles in the best way to plump up your pout) and a great alternative to a lipstick. Will be in my clutch all summer long. I grabbed the color Jam Sesh. Also got the desert island duo stick for a bronzer and blush in one easy go.
There you have it! Let me know if you get any and what your thoughts are- feed back is always helpful!
